about

Family Trees Or: CoPe We Must is an album that chronicles a time of darkness and doubt in Sean Tillmann's career. The alternate title CoPe We Must is short for Coke Peppered Weed Mustache which says it all. Despite the heavy heart the album is full of a slapdash dose of hope.

In the 5 year break between the My Majesty and Family Trees albums, Tillmann had released the Har Mar Superstar albums You Can Feel Me and The Handler while touring worldwide non-stop. Losing a sense of self along the way didn't help matters. After the gears of touring and everything Har Mar grinded to a halt it was apparent to him that he should go back to the basics and write a guitar album with his old friends. Lucky Jeremy, Ben Webster, Patrick Costello, and Tony Bevilacqua all headed into the studio to make the album which became a love song to finding a new direction, the long way home.

Maria Taylor (Azure Ray), Conrad Keely (Trail of Dead), Greg Dulli (The Afghan Whigs), and Dave Hernandez (The Shins, Scared of Chaka) all appear on the album.

After the album was released the band embarked on a US tour supporting The Hold Steady on their wildly successful Boys and Girls in America tour.
